OASIS Process Change: Validation and Locking

NOTE: This change only affects Medicare-certified customers who create OASIS documents for patients. If you do not use OASIS documents, you may disregard.

The process for locking OASIS in Barnestorm has changed to incorporate the Medicare CMS OASIS validation tool.  OASIS can no longer be locked within the Edit screen or from the Build OASIS screen in the assessment.  Instead, the OASIS must be Reviewed and Validated successfully before you can lock the record. And, because of the CMS validation tool, you must be connected to the internet in order to validate the OASIS. 

If your agency does not require clinicians to lock their own OASIS, this process change will not affect your clinicians. If your clinical staff DO lock their own OASIS documents, then you will need to use the attached PDF document to educate clinicians regarding the change to the OASIS locking process:

OASIS reviewers and exporters should also read this document, as it will affect the OASIS  review and export process. The most important step in the export process will be to use the OASIS Tracking Report, found at Reports OASIS > 13.05, to determine which OASIS documents have not been locked. The OASIS audit process should include reviewing, validating, and locking each OASIS.
