Determining Hospice 485 Certfication Dates
People who verify Medicare enrollment need to inform clinicians what the first 485 cert period is, based on any previous cert periods listed in DDE.
First and second hospice election periods are 90 days.
Any subsequent hospice cert periods are 60 days.
An cert period split across 2 providers must keep the same dates. If you pick up a patient who started a hospice cert period with another provider, then your cert start date is your admission date, but the cert end date is the same as the previous provider's thru-date for the certification.
