IMPORTANT NEWS: 2014 CBSA Wage Index Update

NOTE:  This message is intended for Barnestorm Medicare billing personnel. All other personnel may ignore this message.  This update can ONLY be done in Barnestorm Office.

The CBSA Wage Index has been updated for 2014. Along with the 2014 OASIS Grouper, this is what calculates HIPPS rates on OASIS.

Only one person in your office needs to do the update. Check first to see if the 2014 update has already been completed.  Go to:

1.  Codes > Other Basic Codes > County

2.  Click Verify Updates. It should show 2007 - 2013.  (See Below)

NOTE:  If the year 2014 shows on your screen with 613 codes, the update has already been completed. STOP HERE! No further action is needed.

If nothing is listed for 2014 in the Verify Updates, proceed below. It may take several minutes to load these codes, so please run this when you have time to wait for them to load.

4.  Click Update CBSA Wage Indexes to load the new 2014 PPS rates.  When this finishes, you should get the following message: 965 added, 443 Changed.

5.  After you get that message, click Verify Updates.  It should show the following:

6.  To get a list of the updated rates, use Reports > Billing > 13.20.

7.  Now go to Billing > Reports > 14.20 - PPSRCALC and click the ReCalculate button.  If a report prints, it will show the corrected HIPPS $amounts for episodes rates that have changed.  Print the Report.  The screen will now look like this:

NOTE:  If you get a popup "# episodes checked.  No $Amounts Changed," then no episodes have been effected.

8.  You will need to click on the Update PPS Tracking From Payments button that will now be visible, and go through the usual 3-button sequence steps, to create correction entries for episodes that were already paid.
