Hospice Notice of Elections - ICD Coding Issues

If you have ICD coding issues on your Hospice Notice of Elections, please keep the following in mind:

  1. V codes are not allowed as primary. If they appear as primary, you need to correct the patient's ICD history.
  2. 81A uses the oldest ICD history. If you have old codes, possibly from a prior admission, these also may not be V codes. These will need to be corrected or deleted from the patient's ICD history.
  3. Any time you make corrections to the ICD history, check the corresponding 485(s) to ensure that the ICDs are shown correctly. If they are not, edit the 485 and save it in order to incorporate the ICD history changes you made.
